Rehydrating and cooling the Monaro under a changing climate

KEEPING THE MONARO COOL AND WATERED UNDER CLIMATE CHANGE A public meeting in Michelago on Saturday will address how the Monaro region can be kept cool and extremes of weather limited as the climate changes. Walter Jehne, a retired soil microbiologist and now with Healthy Soils Australia, will look at the history of farming in the region since it was first sketched and surveyed by Stewart Ryrie in the 1840s. “Back then, it was much more vegetated region and trees captured moisture from south-easterly winds.
